This is the character Beelzebub, from my project +Seraphim+, casually descending a massive spiral staircase into some deflagrated location in Hell. His face is usually seen as a misty facade with no clear likeness, as if it were made of water reacting to dry ice.
Since the angels and fallen angels in +Seraphim+ aren't mortal, they can manifest any corporal form they desire. Beelzebub has no face, because he doesn't want to have an identity. He is known as a prince of Gluttony, a lord of flies, and a master of heavenly dwelling. In my story, he is the architect of Hell and the entire 2nd heaven. His works on Earth are to promote unnatural hunger and selfishness. He wants humans to be consumed by themselves, never thinking of others. Excess, consumerism, and "rugged individualism" are his playthings. He despises charity and creates fear of it in any way he can. Using the red scare and other tools aversion to selflessness he crushes social programs and cooperative ventures for the greater good. Despite the fact that he promotes selfish behavior, he can't stand to look at himself, an tries to become as vague and featureless a person as possible. The only vestiges of his original identity or soul can be seen in the ornately detailed chasms of Hell and the polarized cosmos of the 2nd heaven.
In +Seraphim+ the Seven Heavens are realms that do not exist in context of each other scientifically. All parallel universes, including the one Earth is located in, are part of the 1st heaven. Hell, a planet-like destination, resides in the 2nd heaven, a quasi-physical realm where everything that can be seen is a metaphor. The 7th heaven is
Heaven, Paradise, Araboth, whathaveyou. The other four will probably be explained the story at some point.
Originally, I designed him to be a generic white-haired anime villain, but this design came after really looking into his character. He is not an albino or caucasian, his "skin" is literally white. The shirtless/faceless look is a funny concept because I can see people liking the fanservice, but freaked out by the his featureless void where a devilish grin should be. I am gonna facepalm if I hear people calling him handsome. I don't know if what I am doing is lampshading Dracoinleatherpants, or averting it, with this design. I hope the dry-ice face inspires some cool fanart though. I bet what ever special effects we cook up for his face in the show will be cool, but I still haven't come up with a satisfactory technique for drawing it. Maybe someone else will "show me how its done". No, I am not literally requesting a fog tutorial.
Named for the song that inspired the image.
